Ottoman army prepared for the conquest of Istanbul needed fortress stoned to repair and to use in the construction of Rumeli and Anatolian fortresses. On this basis, many large and small Stones from many parts of Anatolia were brought to İstanbul in order to contribute to this construction. Our city which also known as Hreclia Pontike in Greek mythology and undertook many missions in Anatolia, has opened its doors to transformation with its passing to Turks and has put signature and witnesses to many historical events.at that time (between 1400 and 1500 years), stone masonry is quite common in Ereğli and there are well known masters. For this reason, many large and necessary Stones for the constructions and repair of the fortress had been gone from Ereğli. Fatih sultan Mehmet the conqueror had given the order of planting 6 conquest planes to Ereğli for its contribution to the conquest of İstanbul with his ferman then. Therefore, the names of these Great Planes are referred to as conquest planes. They have a history of more than 550 years.

In the Black Sea Eregli, there are 8 plane trees registered and protected by the supreme Board of Monuments. It was determined that the age of these Great Planes trees are more than 550 years.  Some protected plane trees became sick due to heavy concretion and started to dry out. Karadeniz Eregli Municipality Park Gardens Directorate has continued to work of doing maintenance needs of the Plane trees and preventing them from drying out.

The Plane tree is also called as KAVLAK TREE in Anatolia since it freshens its bark continuously. The bark of the plane tree is usually. The bark of the plane tree is usually fallen by the effect of the wind. When Plane trees doesn't get enough wind to remove its bark, bacterial growth between the bark increases and the tree starts to get sick. For this reason, there should be no other tree species around the plane trees or concretion their surroundings are not allowed. Plane trees are a kind of a gentle tree that responds immediately to environmental pollution and environmental changes and reacts immediately. Plane trees in Karadeniz Ereğli have been adopted by the public as social recreation areas. Before the 1960s, the rulers, artists and people of Karadeniz Ereğli used to come together under the shadow of the Great Planes, which they called as “Çınaraltı”. However, the industrialization process affected these social areas and paused their social aims. the regions where the historical plane trees were found has become one of the favourite social and recreation areas of the Black Sea Ereğli people and visitors after many years by environmental regulations.
