With the start of World War I in 1914, the right to operate the coal mines was given to the Germans. The Russians got angry with that decision and bombarded the Black Sea Eregli coasts for 2 years. After World War II, Anatolia was occupied and shared by European states and the French came to Karadeniz Ereğli, but they could not occupy Karadeniz Ereğli. A small warship named Alemdar, which was kidnapped by turkish patriots from occupied Istanbul during the War of Independence, was attempted to be captured by the French who dominated Zonguldak and the Black Sea. The patriots who brought Alemdar to the Black Sea Eregli port on 9 February 1920 put the ship ashore and did not surrender it to the French. The French, angry that the patriots took refuge in the Black Sea Ereğli, wanted to occupy the city but could not succeed as a result of the battle of the people of the Black Sea Ereğli. The French who bombed the coastal areas from the sea, including the city's hospital, were subjected to counterattacks as a result of the floating the Alemdar ship secretly. on June 18, in 1921, some French commanders and soldiers who were taken prisoner by the Eregli people had to sign an treaty with the Republic of Turkey which had not yet been established. This treaty was the first international treaty on Independence War of Turkey and was an indication that the Government of National Independence accepted. Karadeniz Eregli during the War of the success obtained as a result of the struggle of the people of the Republic of Turkey has been the basis of his victory. In this way, the first and only naval battle of the War of Independence took place in the Black Sea Ereğli. In order to honour its memory of this historical event, Gazi Alemdar Ship was built exactly the same as orgininal as a museum on 08.08.2008.
